On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the Mimbres Culture Heritage Site will be celebrating the 3rd annual MIMBRES HISTORY DAY. Sponsored by the Imogen F. Wilson Education Foundation, a 501(c) 3, the museum and gift shop will be open from 10 AM – 3 PM free of charge.
10 AM- Biscuits and coffee will be available for those who enjoy a late morning treat
10:30 - Take a walking tour of the Mattocks Ruin with a volunteer historian
11:00 – There will be a presentation about the two Territorial Adobe houses and the people who lived in the houses. Hear the story, “Murder on the Mimbres”
12 noon – A light snack will be available for a fee
1 pm – Take a guided walking tour of the Mimbres Heritage Site
2 pm – Enjoy the presentation. "Life Along the River- Plants and animal use by the Mimbres Indians,“ by Marilyn Markel.
- Try your hand at grinding corn with a matate and a mano or working agave leaves for weaving.
- Twirl a bullroarer like the prehistoric people.
- Play some horseshoes
- Challenge someone to checkers or chess under the veranda
- See the display on Experimental Archaeology by the Grant County Archaeological Society.
- Bid Silent Auction on ½ cord of wood or maybe win the door prize!
