We are sad to say we are cancelling the Whitewater Mesa Fun Kite Flying Picnic taking place on April 4, 2020 in Glenwood, NM.  Due to the coronavirus pandemic we feel it is the responsible action to take. We do not want to put anyone at risk.

With guidance from New Mexico Department of Health, Catron County requires that events of more than 100 people not be held and that people avoid non-essential travel. For the last eight years the Kite Picnic has drawn more than 100 visitors including those from out of state.

We look forward instead to our next Kite Picnic whenever that will be, Cordelia

Original post below:

- Sanctioned by the American Kitefliers Association -

Gather up your family and friends and come to Glenwood and join us for the 16th Whitewater Mesa Fun Kite Flying Picnic. Last year 163 people joined us so there is plenty of space without fences to tangle your kite strings, and room to park for your tailgate picnic. While you are here and for a completely different experience, walk one or all six of the labyrinths and a maze across the road at Whitewater Mesa Labyrinths. For the third time we are sanctioned by the American Kitefliers Association so have joined the international world of kitefliers.

TIME:  12 noon – 5pm on Saturday April 4, 2020.

PLACE: Whitewater Mesa Labyrinths is at 355 Bursum Road. Second house on the left after mile marker 3 on NM 159 off Hwy 180, between Glenwood and Alma, NM 88039.  NB: Using MapQuest, Google Maps or Apple Maps be sure to enter Glenwood NM not Datil after 355 Bursum Road or you will end up 35 miles away on a trail up the mountain in the Gila Wilderness!

ADMISSION:  Free. There will be a free raffle drawing for a kite at 2.30pm, so be sure to pick up your free raffle ticket on arrival at the gate with the labyrinth sign.

WE PROVIDE:  Water, kite mending supplies, a Johnny on the Spot porta-pottie, loaner kites.

YOU BRING: your picnic, your kite, your laughter, the whole family and all your friends, your sunhat and something to sit on.
