Innovation in a time of crisis: The personal meets the professional, meets the profound!

[SILVER CITY, NM, July 3rd, 2020] — “The Big Hairy Audacious Goal is to raise $5,000 for PFLAG National during this current month of July 2020,” says Wendy Spurgeon, Silver City Life Coach and local actress/producer. “Turning 50, the week after the 4th, feels like a prime opportunity to give back through reflection, innovation, and celebration. Emotions are running high in the world right now and many people are feeling disconnected, so hosting a milestone birthday fundraiser is my way of giving back and paying it forward in one fell swoop!”

Wendy Jo Spurgeon was born July 11th, 1970, prematurely in Anchorage, Alaska. Her mother Wanda had to be airlifted from Soldotna to Anchorage via helicopter, to access one of the few incubators available in the state. 50 years ago, incubators were a new innovative technology that saved her life.  She now reaches to embrace the new innovative technology of zoom to save our spirits.

“Now more than ever we need to stand for our physical and emotional health, we need to strengthen our bonds and create new, loving memories. Virtual events help us safely connect with loved ones from around the world. Reach out and touch someone!” she laughs, recalling the old AT&T commercial.

Wendy had a rough childhood, but followed her dreams and served countless audiences, parents and students as a professional actress, director and performing arts teacher in the state of Oregon for just over 20 years. She felt called in 2011 to train under the late Debbie Ford to become a Certified Integrative Coach Professional. In 2015, she felt called again to relocate to Silver City, NM where she enjoys a balanced and thriving life through service she loves!

“I’ve been reaching out to actors from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and throughout the U.S. who are suddenly grounded from their regular diet of live performances.  Several have graciously sent recordings that I am editing together for a pre-recorded morning concert.  Others will be zooming in live during the 7/11 event for the open mics, along with local performers, to share songs, poems, stories, comedy bits, or even backstage memories.”

Spurgeon is the proud mom of a trans-male son and ex-wife/co-parent with his trans-female “other mom”.  She has been a guest panelist for the PFLAG Silver City events on more than one occasion.  “My son Sebastian, and his fiancé Harper, plan to zoom in from Oregon to read a scene from his original play. This is where the personal meets the professional, meets the profound!”

Also on the roster of the birthday events are her Virtual Lunch with a Life Coach workshop (The Law of Attraction Café) from Noon- 2:00 MST, and screenings from her recent Silver City productions. “The Belle of Amherst”, Wendy’s one woman show about Emily Dickinson played live at the Oasis Coffee and Tea House (714 N. Bullard) just last January; and “Relationships in Revue” is a musical showcase featuring Silver City’s best, exploring the diversity of relationships through comedy, drama, great music and heart.

You are cordially invited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her fortuitous helicopter ride through a Hybrid (Live + Virtual) Birthday Party Concert, Workshop and Fundraiser for PFLAG National (Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gays).

“PFLAG was birthed 4 decades ago, when one mother took a stand for her gay son. I submit it was, and still is, a revolutionary act of unconditional love. 100% of your PAY WHAT YOU CAN donation goes to PFLAG National.  Help me reach my BHAG of $5,000. Grab your 7/11 Birthday Party Gift Pass or Bonus Birthday Gift Box at https://thewayoftruth.live/wendylunch”
