The Silver City Museum Store Cash Mob takes place on December 2 from 5-7pm. Shopper and supporters can access it at https://www.facebook.com/SilverCityCashMob, from the museum’s website, www.SilverCityMuseum.Org, or from www.SilverCityMainStreet.com. This Mata Ortiz wedding vase from Mexico is one of many available items.On December 2 from 5-7pm, fifty items from the Silver City Museum Store will be available in a special “Cash Mob” virtual shopping event on Facebook live, https://www.facebook.com/SilverCityCashMob, which will also be linked from the museum’s website at www.SilverCityMuseum.org and from www.SilverCityMainStreet.com.

Organized by Silver City MainStreet, these Cash Mob events encourage safe local holiday shopping. The events are held via Facebook live, on the Facebook page @SilverCityCashMob. A professional videographer will film while MainStreet’s Brenda Tozier co-hosts with Museum Store Manager Melody Collins. Shoppers interact and make purchases in the comments section.

Volunteers confirm and track purchases, and customers are contacted the next day to arrange pickup or shipping.

Some of the Museum Store’s most popular items will be available for holiday shoppers. An oft-remarked item is the old-fashioned painted tin tea set that is normally displayed for children to use in the “Victorian Parlor” of the museum. This is sold in the Museum Store, where it and many other tin and wooden toys are customer favorites to bring some timeless delight to the holidays. Kids also gravitate toward the realistic galloping horse and unicorn wind-up toys that light up and make noises. 

For the discerning adult customer, there are gorgeous and practical gifts, all extremely reasonably priced. These include silver, copper, wood and leather jewelry for all tastes and styles, like bangles, cuffs, necklaces, lockets, and earrings. It includes one-of-a-kind handmade Mata Ortiz pottery from central Mexico, and lapis, malachite, and pearl inlaid knives. Finally, there are a variety of festive Día de los Muertos crafts and symbols of faith.

These and more items will be put up for sale one by one, and the first person to reply in the comment gets the item! 

All proceeds support the Silver City Museum’s free programs and exhibits, which are ongoing virtually and at a social distance during COVID.
