Organized by Silver City MainStreet, cash mobs are now occurring in several New Mexico MainStreet districts as a way to help businesses through the pandemic.

The virtual shopping events are held online using facebook live. Merchants have the opportunity to showcase 50 of their items for sale. Shoppers watch the event and use the comment section to shop.

Volunteers track the comment section to record purchases and the merchant reaches out to the shopper the next day to arrange pick up or shipping.

The last two cash mobs will be held at the Grant County Art Guild Gallery and Light Art Space. This will be last chance to shop cash mobs and support downtown businesses.

On Monday, December 14 from 5 pm to 7 pm, the Cash Mob will be Grant County Art Guild Gallery. Located at 316 N. Bullard St. they have been at this location for 2 years. The Grant County Art Guild recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary and for most of that time the Guild’s gallery was in the Historic Hearst Church in Pinos Altos. Two years ago the members leased the former Hester House location and were very pleased to make the move into Downtown Silver City and become part of our community.

The Gallery is a showcase for our local artistic talent and offers a broad spectrum of expression and style. You’ll find oil and acrylic paintings, mosaics, stain glass, weaving, pottery, turned wood bowls, handmade jewelry, journals, pillows, clothing, handbags and totes, cards and more in a wide price range.

There are 37 Guild Members showing in the Gallery, all of whom are Grant County residents. The artists have their own display space and take turns working in the Gallery. We are a non-profit and all sales go directly to the artists.

What gift could be more appreciated than something made by a local artist? The artists at the Grant County Art Guild Gallery sincerely appreciate the patronage and support from our community.

Light Art Space is located at 209 West Broadway, across from the Murray Hotel and has been open just over 2 years. Light Art Space (LAS) is owned and operated by visual artist and teacher, Karen Hymer who moved here from Tucson in 2018 and began renovating her beautiful, historic building. She recently added an outdoor sculpture garden/event space where yoga classes are taught by The Lotus Center. For the past two years Light Art Space has featured exhibitions by local, regional and national artists. Lectures, artist talks and art workshops are also a standard part of the programing.

LAS represents 8 Grant County artists who work in a variety of media including photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting, drawing and assemblage. The gallery sells small and large handmade artworks ranging in price from $15 - $2000. Gift items include jewelry, pillows, cards, and books. Being a part of the downtown historic district and the greater Silver City community is an important part of the Light Art Space mission. We are here to serve the community and so appreciate all of our local clients.
