Glenwood will seem almost back to normal on April 10 as Dutch Oven cooks set up camp for the annual gathering Saturday April 10 at the Community Park.

Teams will be cooking up full meals in Dutch ovens around the site. You can watch as the teams prepare traditional and updated dishes over campfires and charcoal fires.  

Each meal includes a meat dish, a side dish, bread, and a dessert. Water, lemonade, or coffee will be supplied with the meal. Each camp will have a menu on display. Stop and visit with the teams and learn about their ways of cooking. 

As you do, decide which meal you like best and then purchase a ticket for $10 per meal. Purchasing early is a good idea because tickets may sell out.

Serving begins about 2 p.m. at each camp where the meals are being prepared. Enjoy your Dutch oven dinner at the park or take it home.

Activities this year include games to pass the time and vendor shopping.

There will be a small contest for the cooking teams who want to participate as well as a prize for a young chef.  The categories are Best Main Meal, Best Beef Meal, Best Bread Item, and Best Dessert. This year we are adding a new category. It will be the Best Youth Cooking assistant. Any team that wants to enlist their kids or grandkids to assist with their meal preparation are welcome. There will also be a raffle for some things to enjoy and other Dutch Oven Items for sale.

When the event was changed to the Glenwood, NM Dutch Oven Gathering 5 years ago, the organizers opted to sponsor the event as a community fundraiser. Over the years, all the money, after expenses, was returned to the cooks, and different organizations in the community that need some extra funds. Plans are to do the same for 2021.

COVID guidelines will be encouraged. The organizers feel the event should be safe since it is outside in the fresh air and many folks have been vaccinated now.  

Activities will run from 10 a.m. until about 3 p.m.at the community park on Catwalk Road, Route 174, in Glenwood.

Organizer Molly Bryan said they are still looking for cooking teams and vendors to participate.

Glenwood Library Book Sale 

In conjunction with the Dutch Oven Gathering, Glenwood Library will be having a book sale at the ball field area of the Community Park. There will be a huge selection of books, CDs and DVDs available for readers and viewers to add to their collections. Pick up your favorites and pay by donation.

Street Market

The Glenwood Street Market will be back in business, weather permitting, on Highway 180 in downtown Glenwood.  Vendors offer a wide variety of wares including baked goods, unique handmade items, produce and snacks. The market is open every Saturday mornings until  approximately 2 p.m. 

Trading Post

The rejuvenated Trading Post on Highway 180 in Glenwood keeps getting better and better. The gift shop area has expanded and features items by local artisans, Catwalk T-shirts and a rock shop for all the rockhounds out there. It also offers basic groceries, snacks, drinks, sandwiches and – gas (24-7 with credit card.)

Cosmic Campground
