On Saturday, December 11 from 1-5, Victorian Christmas is back! With some major modifications to account for the health of the public during these COVIDful holidays.

This year Victorian Christmas will take place largely outdoors. For this reason it has been moved to Saturday daytime event. Expanding into the courtyard will allow for a greater variety of activities, including the making of birdseed ornaments, cornhole toss, and Father Christmas giving out books. There will be heat lamps and hot mulled cider to warm the guests, cookies, ornament-making, and of course live music.

This years line-up includes a skit at 1pm by Silver City Community Theater, Twas the Night Before Christmas. At 1:30pm Bayou Seco will perform, followed by Silver City Chorale at 2:30pm, Joe Neri at 3:15pm, and closing out with a bilingual reading at 4pm with Wendy Spurgeon and Raul Turrieta – who is also the event’s MC.

This year we are excited to introduce La Bonita Bakery as a vendor of tamales and other savory snacks!

Victorian Christmas 2021 will also feature the popular puppet show and gift exchange introduced just before COVID. Indoors will be more ornament-making and trees to decorate in the Dodge Gallery, as well as Ebenezer’s Exchange in the hall. To participate, please bring a wrapped gift of no more than $10 value.

Of course a highlight of any holiday season or trip to the museum is the shopping! The Museum Store will be stocked and ready, with complimentary gift wrapping. Don’t forget that as Society members, you can take advantage of a one-time 20% discount from November 15 to December 24.

This event is made possible by the generous sponsorship from our local First American Bank branch here in Silver City, who have been a Victorian Christmas partner for years.

Masks will be required including outdoors (except when eating and drinking), and capacity inside the building will be limited to 50. Victorian dress is always encouraged, but remember to dress warmly and be prepared to be outdoors. The event will culminate with the lighting of our famously festive outdoor decorations when the sun goes down.

We hope to see you all there for this ever-evolving, newly magical event!

The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching, and interpreting the region's unique history.
