armdivbandThe Grant County Community Concert Association and the American Legion Post 18 present the 1st Armored Division Band from Ft. Bliss for a free Holiday Concert.

The 1st Armored Division "Old Ironsides" Band traces its heritage from 1943, when it was activated in the early days of World War II. To this band, however, music was often a sideline as division bands were used as infantry units during World War II. The majority of the band's time was not spent in rehearsing and performing, but in guarding supplies or headquarters installations.

Old Ironsides is one of the premier military bands in the nation and performed for Honorable George W. Bush, President of the United States, Ambassador Bremer, Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff General Richard B. Myers, and other dignitaries and leaders.

Currently, the band is composed of one commissioned officer and 52 enlisted soldiers.

The "showpiece'' of the 1st Armored Division performs throughout the Fort Bliss area in military ceremonies as well as supporting a variety of community relations and international activities. Displaying a multitude of versatility, the band is capable of performing in any musical setting. Whether playing the latest in concert repertoire, marching in military reviews and parades, performing contemporary jazz, the "Old Ironsides'' Band continues to uphold the Motto: "Performance With Pride".

Covid-safe protocols will be in place at the WNMU Fine Arts Center Theater. GCCCA will require everyone over the age of 2 to wear a mask. Social distancing between parties is also recommended.

The concert will be performed Sunday Dec 12, at 3:00 PM in the WNMU Fine Arts Center Theater. The concert is free and open the public. No tickets are required. For more information call (575) 538-5862 or go to gcconcerts.org.
