On Saturday, October 28, from 5:30-6:30 pm MDT, at the Silver City Museum Annex, 302 W. Broadway Silver City, NM three presenters will explore local oral history via three different communities. 

DinwiddieDr. Douglas Dinwiddie will speak about the hundreds of oral history interviews conducted by Louis Blachly in Grant County in the 1950s. Dr. Dinwiddie wrote his doctoral dissertation about Blachly and his Pioneers Foundation Oral History Collection. 
 

Saenz

Joe Saenz of Huichol and Tci-He-Nde (Red Paint People) ancestry grew up in El Paso listening to stories told by his uncles and grandparents about their Warm Spring Apache ancestors. As the owner and operator of Wolfhorse Outfitters, Saenz passes on some of these stories during his horseback tours of the Gila Forest and wilderness areas. 

MarrufoJavier Marrufo, the curator at the Silver City Museum, has been working on the museum's Chihuahua Hill History Project. So far, he has interviewed about 75 people, recording their memories of living in this historically Hispanic neighborhood of Silver City. His work has resulted in “Nuestra Voz: the Chihuahua Hill Story”, a current exhibit at the Silver City Museum. 

Javier will also appear with Catalina Claussen and Brandon Perrault on the "Oral History of Grant County" panel, on Sunday, October 29, from 11:30-12:30 pm, where he will discuss the Oral History of Silver City's Chihuahua Hill, while Catalina and Brandon discuss the history of the Perrault family in the Mimbres Valley. 

Historian and author Dr. Stephen Fox will introduce the speakers and moderate the conversation.
