Senate Bill 87 will allow experienced police officers, first responders, and corrections officers to return to work 

SANTA FE—Today, Senate Republican Whip, Senator Craig Brandt (R-Rio Rancho) passed Senate Bill 87 in the Senate on a bipartisan 33-3 vote. Senate Bill 87 would allow certain retired state employees to return to work, including police officers, first responders, and corrections officers.

Senator Brandt issued the following statement applauding the bill passage:

"I am grateful to the law enforcement community, the administration, the unions, and my colleagues for their support of this important public safety legislation. There is no substitute for experience, and allowing these highly trained professionals to return to work is an important step forward in our efforts to make New Mexico safer." 

Senate Bill 87 will now be sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.Â
