OUR GEOGRAPHIC AREA: We are still in a wave: Grant County cases and positivity rose. After no workplace cases for almost a month, there were 5 new workplace cases this week. While recent Grant County cases have been relatively low, remember that Omicron variants are growing. GRMC Covid admissions are very low.

OUR STATE: We are still in a wave. NM Daily Cases are rising as is positivity; NM Workplace Reports are also rising. In NM, BA.2 (an Omicron variant) increased to 35% from 20% from 9%, and 3.5% earlier. The Omicron variant BA.2 has surfaced in Dona Ana.

NEIGHBORING STATES: AZ data is very limited, but its positivity and cases are rising (AZDHS and CDC). CO cases may be leveling, but positivity is still rising. TX cases and positivity are both now rising.

NATIONALLY: We are still in a wave. USA cases, positivity, and hospital admissions rose.

HOSPITALS: US covid hospital patients were up in 40 states; up 18% (5/5) from 16% (5/2) in the last 14 days.
US hospital admission 7 day average increased weekly from 1485 to 1635 to 1903 and now 2219 (CDC)
CO & TX increasing COVID beds, AZ & NM need watching [HHS]
Percentage of local area ED visits that were covid-like: Grant County was higher than Luna County which was higher than Dona Ana County. GRMC Covid admissions are very low.

VARIANT GROWTH: US: Omicron variant BA.2.12.1 rose from 29% to 37% in one week. NM: Omicron variant BA.2 rose from 20% to 35% in one week. BA2 rose in AZ, CO, and TX.

SOMEWHAT RECENT NEWS: 05/05/22: US CDC has strongly advised avoiding Johnson & Johnson vaccines due to an issue within 2 weeks of inoculation.
