Silver City, NM – Today, Senator Gabriel Ramos announces his intention to seek election on his current appointment as the New Mexico Senator District 28, (Grant, Catron and Socorro) seat. Senator Ramos has been successfully fulfilling this leadership role which was vacated on January 1, 2019 by Lieutenant Governor-elect Howie Morales (D-Silver City).
Senator Ramos is excited to continue serving all his constituents from District 28 with a collaborative leadership approach, bridging the gap with both political party leaders utilizing his caring dependable voice of experience, as he is always dedicated to do his best for the people of New Mexico. His first legislative session experience representing Dist. 28 was a huge success, as immediately his caring leadership voice was respected and recognized by both bipartisan leaders.
Senator Ramos commented. “I have dedicated my life with commitment to serving the wonderful people in our local community by getting involved with local and county elected positions, I look forward to continue serving our District in the New Mexico legislature. Our state has many challenges, as I am already involved with many high priority issues, although we are blessed to be able to work with amazing opportunities for New Mexico. My current work on the State Education Committee is to assure that our schools and teachers are adequately funded to do what is best for students and learning! My continued dedication and commitment is to do the best job for District 28, be up front and transparent with all issues, and to make wise investments, as together we create and maintain jobs for our children and grandchildren in this great state we live in.”

Ramos commitment as Senator is to continue to concentrate his efforts on protecting the state's most vulnerable populations, including senior citizens and children. He says he will continue to support = teachers and school systems "so that we will not continue to be ranked 50th in the nation. Being one of seven veterans in the Senate, he is willing to do all he can to better the services for all veterans and he also will continue to support small businesses within communities. His biggest goal is to "preserve our way of life throughout our rural communities."
Before serving as a State Senator, Ramos served as a County Commissioner, Mayor Pro Tem for the Town of Hurley, and he was also elected as a Grant County Clerk. Ramos has also served on the Cobre Consolidated School Board. Ramos, is the owner of The Gabriel Ramos Agency, Farmers Insurance located in Silver City.
Ramos has a Bachelor of Science in Business Public Administration, obtained from Western New Mexico University in Silver City. Ramos also served as a member of the New Mexico Army National Guard for nine years, where he served as a Communications maintainer and operator. He lives in Silver City with his wife of 25 years Patricia and two children Erika and James. Ramos is the son of David and Rosemary Ramos of Hurley and is a parishioner at the Hurley Infant Jesus Shrine.
