Statement follows report that the bill has been pulled from consideration by the sponsors
SANTA FE – In response to news that the sponsors of Senate Bill 43 have pulled the bill from further consideration this Legislative Session, Senator Crystal Diamond (District 35-Doña Ana, Hidalgo, Luna, and Sierra) and crime victims' advocate, Nicole Chavez, released the following statements:
"Senate Bill 43 forced the families of many victims to relive their tragedies and I am grateful that they were heard. The announcement that this bill has been removed from consideration this Session is a testament of their advocacy and hard work, and I was honored to help amplify their voices." –Senator Crystal Diamond
"I want to thank the Republican members of the Senate and House for embracing our cause and shedding light on the potential impacts of this unjust and misguided bill. The idea that my son's murderer would potentially walk if this bill was enacted was a pain I was ill-prepared to face. As a woman of faith, I believe in redemption; but the power of redemption does not abolish the need for justice." –Nicole Chavez
