On Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at about 10 p.m. Silver City police officers responded to a possible homicide at 1417 N. Silver Street, behind Domino’s. According to an SCPD incident report narrative, upon arrival officers made contact with Darlinda Little, 65, of Silver City, who advised officers that Amy Gonzales, 39, also of Silver City, was deceased inside Little’s trailer. Officers then entered the home and found Gonzales on the living room floor with what appeared to be bruising and blood on her face, head, and neck, the report said. EMS personnel from the Silver City Fire Department and Gila Regional Medical Center arrived on scene and advised that the victim was not breathing and was cold to the touch.

Little told officers, according to the report, that she and the victim were sitting on the couch watching TV, when Macario Arroyos Jr, also known as Sharky, 30, of Silver City, knocked on the door, was let in by the victim, and sat down in a recliner. All of a sudden, Little stated, according to the report, Arroyos jumped up and began stabbing, hitting, and choking the victim.

When detectives arrived on scene, Little told them, according to an arrest warrant affidavit, that she tried to stop Arroyos by hitting him and throwing things at him but he kept pushing her over. Arroyos finally left, Little stated, telling her that Gonzales is dead, the affidavit stated, and she watched him run south from her house.

According to the affidavit, on Feb. 9, at approximately 5:07 a.m., the house supervisor at GRMC advised the possible suspect was at the hospital. Obtaining a search warrant for Arroyos, SCPD officers arrived at GRMC at 6:45 a.m. and made contact with Arroyos. While taking DNA samples, Arroyos reportedly kicked both officers and was being uncooperative. Arroyos was secured and transported to the SCPD.

The district attorney’s office approved charges on Feb. 9, at 9:14 a.m., for an open count of murder, a capital felony; and two counts of battery upon a police officer, fourth degree felonies. A warrant for Arroyos’ arrest was issued that day. According to Grant County Detention Center staff, Arroyos was booked into the GCDC at 9:30 a.m. Assistant District Attorney Norman Wheeler told the Beat that Arroyos’ next court appearance will probably be at an arraignment and that a motion has been filed for him to be held without bond.
