On Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, The U.S. Forest Service, assisted by the Fort Bayard and Whiskey Creek volunteer fire departments, and the Grant County Fire Management Officer, responded to a grass fire, according to Randy Villa, GCFMO.

The fire blackened approximately 70 acres about one mile south of the USFS Fort Bayard Administration Site, Marta Call, USFS Public Affairs Officer, told the Beat. The fire was human caused, she said and no injuries were reported. The incident is still under investigation.
