Grassfire near Calvary Baptist Church

On Wednesday, Mar. 25, 2020, at about 2:31 p.m., Tyrone Volunteer Fire Department and Silver City Fire Department personnel were paged out to a grassfire near the intersection of Highway 90 and Truck Bypass, southwest of Calvary Baptist Church, according to Michael Cox, TVFD Incident Commander.

The fire covered approximately 2.4 acres in Type I fuels (mainly grass), Cox told the Beat. There were no injuries and the cause of the blaze has not been determined. Cox said SCFD sent six personnel, while TVFD sent 10. Three brush trucks, two small minis, one water tender, and two pickup sized vehicles were utilized by the two agencies.

The fire was declared out at 4:45 p.m.
