A Grant County Sheriff's Office deputy responding to a shooting call at about 9:47 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Gila Regional Medical Center made contact with Rudy Marquez, 39, of North Hurley, who had been admitted to the ER.

According to a GCSO offense report, the deputy observed wounds on Marquez' left leg, one on the inside of the leg about four inches above the ankle and a second on the outside about two inches above the ankle.

Marquez stated, according to the report, they had been at the Bird Sanctuary in Gila on Sunday, June 7, and it began to rain while he was in the river. He went to the vehicle to get his pants and when he was putting them on, a .38 Special revolver in a holster fell out and as he tried to grab it he heard a bang. The report stated that Marquez said he didn't realize he had been shot until he felt something wet on his leg.

Marquez said, according to the report, that he and a companion bandaged up the wound and determined it was a 'through and through' wound, and since it wasn't really bothering him ended up going home. However, this morning, Marquez related, his leg started to bother him so he went to the ER.

The deputy asked where the revolver was, and according to the report, Marquez stated it was at home. The deputy then asked Marquez to call with the serial number. Marquez did complete a medical release form and the deputy photographed the wound.
