On June 20, 2020 at approximately 8:23pm, Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to assist in a high-speed pursuit which began at the Interstate 10 Customs & Border Protection checkpoint at milepost 121 in Dona Ana County.

The pursuit continued through Luna and Grant Counties with multiple agency involvement. Grant County Deputies assumed the lead role in the pursuit on U.S. Highway 180 East at milepost 133 (south of Hurley, NM.). The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle collided with a fence at a residence in the Village of Santa Clara, NM. No injuries were observed or reported by the three occupants of the vehicle.

This incident resulted in the on-scene arrest of one vehicle occupant (driver). The two other occupants (passengers) were released at-scene, however were arrested the following morning on warrants obtained subsequently.

All three vehicle occupants are believed to be Florida residents who were travelling through New Mexico on Interstate 10 when they fled the Customs & Border Patrol Checkpoint west of Las Cruces, NM. All were charged with one or more felonies as a result of this incident and remain detained at the Grant County Detention Center at the current time.
