Inocente Rivera, 20, of Ascencion, Chihuahua, Mexico, pleaded guilty in Las Cruces federal court Tuesday, July 14, 2020, to charges of conspiracy to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute, about 220 pounds of marijuana.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, as Rivera tried to enter the United States on May 12, through the Columbus, NM port of entry, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered 305 wrapped bundles of marijuana hidden in the bed of the vehicle he was driving that he intended to distribute in the U.S.

Rivera remains in custody awaiting sentencing which could be up to 40 years in prison.
