On Sunday, July 5, 2020, Silver City Police Department officers contacted Jessica Rascon at the station in reference to Rascon reporting her mother, Toni Padilla, 58, as missing. According to a police report, Rascon stated that on Friday, July 3, at about 1 p.m., she dropped her mother at her mother's friend's house, saying she did not know his last name but knew him as Casey. The house was reported to be at 3520 Broken Arrow Drive in Silver City. Rascon stated, the report said, when she returned at around 6 p.m. to pick up her mother, Casey told her that her mother had left around 4 p.m. but couldn't say how she left or in what direction she went. Rascon said she was unable to raise her mother via cellphone.

According to the report, Rascon stated it was uncommon for her mother to take off and leave without any notification and did not report any mental or physical issues regarding her mother, although she did say Padilla was high on cocaine when Rascon dropped her off.

Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority dispatchers were able to ping Padilla's phone and it was showing a GPS location for Arenas Valley in the area of Monte Street. According to the report, Rascon told authorities she did not know anyone who lived in that area. Deputies searching the area were not able to locate Padilla. A second ping at about 4:55 p.m. showed the same location.

The report said that a missing persons clearinghouse report form and a dental records release form were sent to GCRDA to be entered into NCIC.

The case remains under investigation.
