From the U.S. Forest Service Cub Fire report:

"In order to provide for firefighter safety while working in a remote area, an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance was ordered and has been located at the Willow Creek spike camp. Yesterday that ambulance was approached by a visitor who had a relative experiencing a medical emergency. Because of the location of the ambulance and the strict adherence to the medical plan this ambulance initiated the process of getting a county ground ambulance as well as a regional air ambulance en route to the incident. The assigned paramedics were able to stabilize the patient for transport via air ambulance to a definitive care facility."

The Beat reached out to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, Gila Regional Medical Center, and Emergency Medical Services for additional information but all three expressed no knowledge of the incident. Marta Call, the Gila National Forest Public Information Officer, told the Beat only that "We keep ambulances on scene for fire in case one of our people gets hurt. They weren't able to take care or transport the patient so the ambulance service radio'ed in to the Forest Service dispatch and requested an ambulance come show up for the private citizen." Medical information cannot be released, she said.
