Multiple county and city law enforcement units responded Friday, Aug. 9, 2020, at about 8 a.m. to a welfare check call in reference to a report that a victim was bitten by a rattlesnake on 41 H.L. Watkins Drive in Silver City.

A spokesperson for the Grant County Sheriff's Office told the Beat the caller was not confirmed despite multiple GCSO, Silver City Police Department and Silver City Fire Department units looking for him.

According to the GCSO, the call is suspect and may indicate the caller may have mental health or under the influence issues, possibly transient. However, this was not confirmed, the spokesperson said, as the person suspected of making the call denied it when they were contacted by EMS.
