According to Ken Goddard, White Signal Volunteer Fire Department Battalion Chief, a landing zone for a medical transport helicopter was cleared at the Tyrone Post Office parking lot on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020 a little after noon.

Gila Regional Medical Center's ground service ambulance responded to a house call at about 12:30 p.m. at a residence located near the Continental Divide on Highway 90 and transported the patient to the LZ, arriving at about 1:10 p.m. A Native Air medivac helicopter arrived at the LZ at about 1:15 p.m. and lifted off with the patient about 15 minutes later bound for Las Cruces, according to Goddard.

Eight firefighters from Station 1 (Tyrone VFD), Station 2 (White Signal VFD), and Station 5 (Wind Canyon VFD), responded to the patient call and to prepare the LZ, Goddard said. Fire apparatus from the three stations were used to block the four entrances to the parking lot to provide safety to the LZ.
