Silver City police officers responded on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, at about 5:38 p.m. to a reported shooting incident near Penny Park in reference to a male with a gunshot wound to his foot. According to a much-redacted police report, officers made contact with the male victim in the ER of Gila Regional Medical Center who had been shot in his right foot. He stated he had gone to Food Basket to get his vehicle which had broken down and when he discovered it wouldn't start he walked toward Penny Park and then into the ditch area.

As he was smoking a 'blunt,' the victim advised, he heard a male yell, "What's up, bitch?" When he turned around, the report said, he saw a male with a gun and began to run. The victim stated, according to the report, that he heard four or five shots, and when he stopped on some stairs and took his shoe off he discovered he had been shot in the foot. Officers later found blood droplets on the stairs near an old building that used to be Agape Academy.

A friend drove the victim to the hospital, the report stated, where he told officers the incident was probably gang-related, as he was in prison two years ago and a lot of 'eastsiders' were mad at him due to him getting out of prison.

Officers were told by GRMC staff that depending on what a CAT scan shows, the victim may be flown out to El Paso. However, he stated he will not go to Texas because he has a felony warrant there. The victim did sign an authorization for the release of health information. There is no other information at this time and the case is still under investigation.
