New Mexico State Sen. Gabriel Ramos has tendered his resignation as senator and has accepted a job with the state at New Mexico Tech. Due to New Mexico Statute Section 2-1-4, which is titled: Section 2-1-4 - Payment of other compensation to legislator for acting as officer or employee of state prohibited, he said it was prudent to resign.

It states: Universal Citation: NM Stat ยง 2-1-4 (2019)

It is unlawful for any officer of the state of New Mexico to pay to any member of the legislature compensation for services rendered the state of New Mexico as an officer or employee thereof except such compensation and expense money which such member is entitled to receive as a member of the legislature.
