The award was initiated by Representative Rebecca Dow and recognizes the work that Silver City MainStreet has done over the past 35 years.

Specifically, Silver City MainStreet is recognized as one of the oldest continuously operating MainStreet programs in the state and for their efforts to preserve historic downtown. The award also acknowledges that Silver City MainStreet has been able to leverage more than $5 million for downtown improvements such as beautification projects, renovations of downtown buildings, and for developing marketing strategies. The 2011 Great American MainStreet Award was also included in the recognition.

"We were honored and thrilled to receive the recognition, Patrick Hoskins, board president of Silver City MainStreet, said. "We are grateful to Representative Dow for acknowledging our hard work and for her support of our MainStreet program and others in the state. Thank you, Rebecca Dow!"
