On Wednesday, Apr. 15, 2022, at about 9:10 p.m., a Silver City Police Department officer received information that two males were walking in the middle of the road on Hudson Street in front of the New Mexico Gas Company. Arriving at the scene, the officer, according to an SCPD incident report narrative, observed a male, later identified as Irvan Flores, 33, of Silver City, lying face down on the pavement, his right cheek in a pool of blood. It appeared that Flores had also suffered an injury to his lower abdomen. EMS arrived on scene and began to treat Flores.
At this time, the officer contacted the victim's brother, Lorenzo Flores, who stated, according to the narrative, "What a f*****g idiot, why did he do that?" Lorenzo Flores stated that Irvan wanted to be hit by a vehicle because he was "acting stupid," and that Irvan began making suicidal statements during their walk.
Another witness advised that Lorenzo stated to her after he talked to Central Dispatch on the witness' phone, "My brother is stupid" and "He did it on purpose."
The man who was pointed out by a witness as the one who hit Irvan stated to the officer that he was the driver of that vehicle, and he did not see Irvan cross into his lane of travel which was southbound in the right lane and that he was going about 35 mph. After the collision with Irvan, the driver pulled over and parked at the entrance to the Silver City Fire Department. The officer observed damage to the left front of the driver's white Ford Ranger.
According to the narrative, Irvan was transported to Gila Regional Medical Center then flown out to University Medical Center in El Paso. On Apr, 16, the officer received information that Irvan was in critical but stable condition.
