According to the Grant County Sheriff, Frank Gomez, a call came into the Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority at about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, advising a husband and wife had been shot on Panchos Road in Mimbres. Gomez told the Beat the GCSO responded and determined the incident was an apparent murder-suicide with the female being the victim and the male being the suspect. Both were in their 50s.

Gomez said the initial call to GCRDA came from a family member, and the weapon used was a "high-powered" rifle. Gomez also stated a press release with additional information would be forthcoming, possibly on Monday, Nov. 14.
