Silver City, NM – The inaugural Western New Mexico University Jingle and Mingle on the Patio is set for Friday, December 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. The festive family event will occur on Light Hall Patio and include live music, children’s activities like decorating cookies, and a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” by WNMU President Joseph Shepard.

“We want to bring the families of Silver City together over the holidays and create a tradition that our students, faculty and staff can enjoy and return for year after year,” President Shepard said.

WNMU Cultural Affairs has scheduled a full line up of performances by local musicians, including WNMU Mariachi Plata, Brandon Perrault Duo, Silver High School Choir and Silver Chorale. Seasonal treats will be served, and attendees can take photos in front of wintery backdrops as well as purple- and gold-festooned tannenbaums. Santa will be in attendance, and the first-year event also includes an ugly sweater contest.

“Rumor has it that special guests from Whoville might show up at Jingle and Mingle. Even the Grinch reluctantly agreed to make an appearance,” said Faye McCalmont, WNMU Special Assistant to the President for Cultural Affairs.
