fabulous fiber art treeSilver City MainStreet has been busy decorating downtown Silver City for the holidays with the help of the Town of Silver City and great volunteers. Holiday decorating is one way that Silver City MainStreet helps to promote downtown. All the decorations are donated or purchased through donations and fundraising.

This year, MainStreet collaborated with the SW Women’s Fiber Arts Collective to make a twelve-foot fiber art tree. The six-inch fiber art squares were donated by dozens of local fiber enthusiasts and put together by a handful of truly dedicated volunteers.

She thought it would be a fun project for the community since she knew so many fiber artists live in Grant county. Allen put the word out and started collecting squares in February. More than 700 squares were made and collected. A list of the people who made the squares is attached to the base of the tree.

The tree has been installed at The Hub, 600 N. Bullard Street in an open area, great for taking holiday pictures. We invite residents to come and see the tree.

So many squares were made that a small six-foot tree was made for the Visitor Center located at 201 N. Hudson Street. Both are really fun to look at and see all the different squares.

The mission of Silver City MainStreet is "To encourage a vibrant, historic downtown Silver City which is recognized as the heart of our diverse community." Please visit our website, www.silvercitymainstreet.com to learn more.
