See if the shoe fits at the opening reception of From the Collections, January 22, 5-7pm at the Silver City Museum.On Wednesday, January 22, from 5-7pm, the Silver City Museum will entertain guests for the premier of a new exhibit, From the Collections: a behind-the-curtain peak at some of the Museum’s most fascinating artifacts, along with some information and commentary on the process of collecting, and some light refreshments.
The Silver City Museum houses over 200,000 objects and 25,000 photographs. Among the highlights that will be displayed are Madam Millie’s red high heels, and a photograph from the Merritt Family collection of the first planes the U.S. military used in combat, which in 1916 took to the southern New Mexico skies seeking retribution for Poncho Villa’s raid on Columbus, NM.

The interactive exhibit will also invite public conversation about objects that could or should be collected, and how they can be used to tell stories of our past.
