Jan. 26, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Memory and Desire"

Brazilian WMNU artist-in-residence João Galera will talk about a community art installation, and the philosophy behind it during this Sunday’s service.

Galera is a Brazilian artist who has drawn since childhood. During doctoral research in anthropology in Mexico, his interest in artistic pursuits intensified. He has participated in collective and individual exhibits in Brazil, the US, and Mexico. He is currently employing the theme of personal and collective memories for his creations.

Galera will speak of “memory and desire” . . . how do our communities’ memories, both spoken and unspoken, shape our desires for our future? After the service, all participants will be encouraged to create a small clay object symbolizing important memories, which will compose a larger piece for a community art installation.

This is a Family Program Sunday and our topic today will be "Looking In/Looking Out." It will involve the children getting to know themselves better. We look forward to learning and growing together with 2020 vision and hope you will join us! As always, discussion will be followed by arts and crafts or other fun activities! Please feel free to join us!

There will be coffee and conversation after the service, and visitors are always welcome.
