On June 14 at 7pm, Zoom Meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82520354335 (Meeting ID: 825 2035 4335), WNMU artist-in-residence João Galera and Luis Felipe Feltrin from Brazil will read When Clay Sings by Byrd Baylor.

A prose-poem, this book imagines the lives of the people who once owned the pottery that now is scattered over the hillsides in the Southwestern deserts of North America. 

During his time here, Galera is working on an ambitious project, inspired by T.S. Eliot’s poem “The Wasteland,” but portraying Grant County. One part involves pen-and-ink drawings of found objects representing the land that will be crocheted together, and another consists of clay figures made by local citizen participants.

Clay objects created by the community for Galera’s Community Art Installation will be shown as part of this reading.

The Silver City Museum Storytime Series brings to you children’s stories about the land and people of the Southwest. Storytime is designed to engage early readers and their families virtually (in the comfort of your own home) to enjoy reflections on life in our region.
