image001 7This Sunday, June 28 at 7pm, the Silver City Museum’s bilingual storytime series will feature Laura Phelps and Jose Carasco reading Little Roja Riding Hood by Susan Middleton Elya. Laura is the Community Development Manager for Freeport McMoRan, and Jose Carasco is a mine engineer at the Tyrone mine.This Sunday, June 28 at 7pm, the Silver City Museum’s bilingual storytime series will feature Laura Phelps and Jose Carasco reading Little Rioja Riding Hood written by Susan Middleton Elya and illustrated by Susan Guevara. Phelps is the Community DevelopmentManager for Freeport McMoRan, and Carrasco is a mine engineer at theTyrone mine.

Winner of a Pura Belpre Honor for Illustration, this story is a smart, snappy, bilingual retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. While Rojapicks flowers on the way to her grandma's, a mean wolf sneaks away with her cape to surprise Abuelita. But Grandma's no fool and Roja's no ordinary chica. They send that hungry lobo packing with a caliente surprise!

The Silver City Museum Storytime Series presents children’s stories about the land and people of the Southwest. Storytime is designed to engage early readers and their families virtually (in the comfort of their own home) to enjoy reflections on life in our region. 

The public can register and attend these Zoom Webinars for free at www.silvercitymuseum.org. Zoom is easy to use and has a text chat feature to encourage audience participation. 

The Museum is partnering with the Silver City Public Library, which hosts its own Storytime on Wednesday mornings at 10am, and encourages families to check it out at www.silvercitypubliclibrary.org under Children’s Activities.
