It's like a birthday around here - dessert first! Although Virus Theater has done a few film projects over the years, our thing has always been (and will always be) LIVE THEATER!!! As with so many people and organizations, the pandemic has made us    S  T    R     E        T          C            H.

What that looks like - Virus Theater is launched a Patreon account, with brand new audio and video content for you, beloved community. This is our online stage until we can be there in person with you again. Find us at patreon.com/virustheater.

Patreon is a website used by many artists to invite supporters to become Patrons, members who make a monthly donation - in any amount you choose, in our case - and in exchange, we post creative offerings! We'll also feature much loved clips from past live performances. Although this wasn't in our plan, 2020 is clearly NOT about plans. So here we go...

The dream team from our first video offering, 40/40Our very first video offering is free to all, whether you decide to subscribe to our Patreon or not. So please visit our Patreon page HERE and freely view our 8-minute long filmed dramatic readings of 40-word quarantine poems written by Melanie Zipin, 40/40. ENJOY!

Our name

Many have asked. We've wondered ourselves... and we've come to this: Virus Theater has been making live, original, local, relevant theater for over 20 years as Virus Theater. When computers started getting viruses, we didn't run. When things started "going viral," we didn't brag. Here we are and here we'll stay. For now. We reserve the right to change our creative direction or name later. Y'know... artists!

Our new website launches!

Our new website is live! Check us out at virustheater.com.

We're still (obviously) using Mail Chimp for email management. NEW subscribers can sign up for these emails through a form at the bottom of every page of our new website. And we really want to grow this email list - we love you all, and we know many of our community are not on it. So send people to our new website pretty please!

Our existence

As it has been for many other industries, the pandemic has been hard on live theater. Virus Theater is very grateful to have received a grant to help us cover some of our costs and make up for the lack of live performance ticket sales during this time. Virus Theater is supported in part by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the New Mexico Humanities Council. This funding, part of the statewide distribution of the CARES Act, allows us to cover some of our fixed expenses during the pandemic so that we can continue to dream and grow our future offerings.
