This unnamed work in progress by Buck Burns will be featured in Arte Chicano 2020, a virtual version of the Silver City Museum’s annual curated art show. It will be viewable at www.silvercitymuseum.org on November 20 and at the physical museum once it is open to the public.On November 20 the Silver City Museum officially launches its 5th Annual Arte Chicano Exhibit. The exhibition series is a chance for the museum to support and celebrate Chicano artists working in the area. Arte Chicano 2020 will feature the work of Chris Alvarez and Buck Burns as curated by Diana Leyba-Ingalls.  

The exhibit will be installed in the Dodge Gallery and will be viewable at www.silvercitymuseum.org in the form of a video tour with commentary by the artists. It will be waiting for in-person viewing when the museum is able reopen to the public.

Chris Alvarez is a native Silver Citian and is known for his inspiring and insightful depictions of everyday objects and scenery. Besides working in Silver City, he operates the Alvarez Gallery and Art School in downtown Colorado Springs. Chris’s work has won multiple awards including Plein Aire Magazine’s Grand Prize at the Paint Historic Manitou Paintout. Besides Arte Chicano, Chris’s work is to be featured in the 2020 Governor’s show. 

Buck Burns is a well-known local multimedia artist, actor and co-owner of Manzanita Ridge. Buck describes his process:

“Once a project get going the new one is generating just in the back of my brain. Problem, I am horrible and procrastinate, a lot. Then the mad rush to create and you push through long nights and early mornings; make it to work and leave your day just as you found it, paint on your clothes, on your face. Dirt under your nails and an empty stomach because you forgot to eat. That’s usually my time when ‘arting.’

I’ve been at it since as long as I can remember. Drawing, painting, paper mache(ing) and so many others. Like I said, one project leads to another to another. Finishing one means I have several more lined up.”
