The Silver City Rotary Club and its new officers recently adopted a revised strategic plan which reaffirms the club’s commitment to supporting local as well as regional and global projects, including providing college scholarships, helping to address food insecurity locally and elsewhere in New Mexico, and continuing the work of Rotary International in eradicating polio worldwide. 

The new strategic plan includes calling for the club to provide at lease one global or district-wide disaster relief project at a value of no less than $1,500, and the club recently voted to send $1,400 to the Albuquerque Rotary Club to help support its Navajo Relief Project. Lucy Falley coordinated this project.

New officers for the club include Bart Roselli as president, Niel McDonald as president-elect, Carlos Lucero as treasurer, Leslie Bush as secretary, Rosie Higgs, as immediate past president, Kathy Eaton as club service and public image chair, RJ Jones as community and international projects chair, and Maggie Veeder as youth service chair.

Rotarians recently made 300 face masks, and distributed them to Millie’s Assisted Living Community, Western Bank and the Silver City Post Office. Eaton has headed the club’s mask project.

A Community Needs Assessment is being drawn up by for the club by Roselli and Cynthia Bettison.

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build peace and goodwill in the world. It is the world’s oldest and largest service organization with more than 1.2 million members in 168 countries. Some of the Rotary International Foundation’s ongoing projects are eliminating polio world-wide and bringing clean water systems to remote villages in third world countries. In recent months, the RI Foundation has approved more than 3.7 million dollars in disaster response grants for fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
