Organized by Silver City MainStreet, cash mobs are now occurring in several New Mexico MainStreet districts as a way to help businesses through the pandemic. 

The virtual shopping events are held online using facebook live. Merchants have the opportunity to showcase 50 of their items for sale. Shoppers watch the event and use the comment section to shop. Volunteers track the comment section to record purchases and the merchant reaches out to the shopper the next day to arrange pick up or shipping. 

The next two cash mobs will be held at Oasis Coffee & Tea House and the Silver City Museum Store. These are two more downtown businesses that have many great holiday and everyday gifts. 

On Monday, November 30 from 5 pm to 7 pm, the Cash Mob will be Oasis Coffee & Tea House. Established two years ago, the Coffee & Tea House supports the New Church of the Southwest Desert. They will be offering a selection of devotional items including jewelry, candles and crosses. Many of their gifts are under $10.

On Wednesday, December 2, from 5 pm to 7 pm, the Cash Mob will be at the Silver City Museum Store. The store was established 1988 as the fundraising arm of the Silver City Museum Society to support the Silver City Museum, established in 1967. The store stocks carefully selected Southwestern items and gifts along with an exceptional selection of regional and western books. Proceeds from the store benefit the museums programs and outreach. 

Melody Collins, Store Manager states, “Before the pandemic, a good portion of our sales were from residents. Residents would bring visiting friends and family to the store to shop and support the museum. Tourists nearly always found something to take home as a gift or memento. Shopping local supports our community and our museum.”
