Like all organizations, the museum has been hit hard financially by COVID.

“Store sales used to account for almost half of our revenue before we had to close our doors,” says Store Manager Melody Collins.

“But we put in a lot of hard work, we adapted, and now we are proud to offer our very own e-commerce website. It’s just like shopping on Amazon, but you support your local history museum, and you can use free pick-up!”

Customers can shop over 80 book titles on local and regional history, handmade Mata Ortiz pots from Mexico, jewelry including necklaces, bracelets, and  earrings, and of course a novel variety of items with New Mexico’s iconic Zia symbol – a classic gift for the out-of-staters and the New Mexico-proud alike.

Both shipping by mail and safe contactless pickup are available. All funds from the store support the Silver City Museum and its free public programs and exhibits, many of which are now available on the website as well.

Popular titles include Madam Millie: Bordellos from Silver City to Ketchikan by Max Evans, Apache Voices by Sherry Robinson, Billy the Kid Rides Again: Digging for the Truth by Jay Miller, Built to Last: An Architectural History of Silver City by Susan Berry and Sharman Apt Russell, Pioneering in New Mexico: The Memoirs of H.B. Ailman, and Santa Rita del Cobre: A Copper Mining Community in New Mexico, by Christopher Huggard and Terrence Humble, and the DVD Salt of the Earth.

To get a special promo code for 15% off the store on Cyber Monday (November 30), follow the Silver City Museum on Facebook or go to our website and sign up for the museum email list.

The Silver City Museum Store will also be participating in an online shopping event called Cash Mobs, organized by Silver City MainStreet to encourage safe local holiday shopping. The events are held via Facebook live, on the Facebook page @SilverCityCashMob.

The Silver City Museum Store Cash Mob takes place on December 2 from 5-7pm. Shopper and supporters can access it at https://www.facebook.com/SilverCityCashMob, from the museum’s website, www.SilverCityMuseum.Org, or from www.SilverCityMainStreet.com.

The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching, and interpreting the region's unique history. It is nationally recognized through its accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums.
