May 22, at 10 am, 3845 North Swan Street – “TED Talk: Our Refugee System is Failing. Here’s How We Can Fix It”

“A million refugees arrived in Europe this year, says Alexander Betts, and "our response, frankly, has been pathetic." Betts studies forced migration, the impossible choice for families between the camps, urban poverty, and dangerous illegal journeys to safety. In this insightful talk, he offers four ways to change the way we treat refugees, so they can make an immediate contribution to their new homes. "There's nothing inevitable about refugees being a cost," Betts says. "They're human beings with skills, talents, aspirations, with the ability to make contributions -- if we let them.’"

This talk by Alexander Betts was originally given in 2016 when the refugee crisis was accelerating in Europe. After the video the Fellowship will discuss his solutions and how the US could incorporate them into our own treatment of refugees.

The Fellowship is reopening its Children's Religious Education (CRE) program this Sunday.

Going forward into June, classes will be offered on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. The children will be included in the opening minutes of the Fellowship's Sunday service before the children's class begins.

Parents are invited to bring children four years and older to attend youth-led classes. Ninth grader Ivy Stephens-Etheridge, a former CRE student, will lead a class about sharing this Sunday.

Family Program Director Gay Hedges will share enrollment information with parents while children are engaged in introductory activities.  She notes, "We are delighted to open our doors again to our community's children.  We have missed them during these past two years!  Come and see what we have to offer."

For more information, contact Carol Morrison, 575 223-8972.

There are speakers on the patio if you wish to enjoy the service outside.
