Saturday, October 15 at 9 am – 12 pm at Gough Park Parking Lot

Join the anti-litter program Pick it Up – Toss No Mas for a community-wide Trash Bash on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Meet the Pick It Up – Toss No Mas team in the Gough Park parking lot at 9 am on Saturday, October 15 and pick up trash bags, gloves, trash pickers and snacks.

Let everyone know that your part of the team keeping Silver City clean and beautiful and grab your free Pick It Up – Toss No Mas t-shirt while supplies last.

Enjoy Einstein’s bagels with other volunteers before you head out to clean up litter at a location of your choice.

Return to Gough Park between 11 am and noon to drop off trash and recyclables and record your cleanup results that will qualify you for prizes.

Thanks to the New Mexico Department of Transportation for hauling the collected trash to the landfill. Recyclables will be collected and recycled with Silver City Recycles or the High Desert Humane Society.

Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and bring a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Because children under 12 are not permitted on state highways for the cleanup, families with younger children are encouraged to clean up litter in their neighborhood, local parks or waterways.

Volunteers are the foundation of the Pick It Up – Toss No Mas program.

Since October, over 293 volunteers have dedicated more than 783 volunteer hours to the anti-litter program. Volunteers have picked up 8,209 pounds of trash, debris and recyclables from Highways 180 and 90, Silver City neighborhoods, Big Ditch Park and San Vicente Creek.

Thanks to all of the volunteers who participated in September for World Cleanup Day, including Community Youth Build, Mint Chips Team, WNMU Queers & Allies Club/Psychology Club, WNMU Horticulture Club, WNMU Criminal Justice Dept, and the Continental Divide Trail Coalition.

Congratulations to September’s ‘Most Trash Collected’ Winners! 1st Place was Community Youth Build & Bob Schiowitz who collected 219 pounds of trash, 2nd place was the Continental Divide Trail Coalition who collected 27 pounds of trash, and 3rd place was Mayor Ken Ladner who collected 25 pounds of trash & debris.

Monthly Pick It Up – Toss No Mas cleanup events are held the third Saturday of every month. Community members can also adopt a roadway or waterway to take care of and clean up throughout the year. Alternatively, you can organize your own cleanup, and Pick It Up – Toss No Mas can supply the trash pickers, trash bags and gloves for your event.

Pick It Up – Toss No Mas community cleanup events are partially funded by a grant from New Mexico Clean and Beautiful and are sponsored by the Town of Silver City, Silver City Watershed Keepers, Silver City Recycles, Silver City MainStreet, SWNMACT, Southwest Solid Waste Authority, and New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Toss No Mas Program.
