December 11, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Border Chronicles”

Author Todd Miller and co-author Melissa del Bosque will talk about “The Border Chronicle,” a Substack site, why they started it, what "border journalism" is and why it's important. They will bring up some of the issues they've covered, ranging from technology and climate change to border theater, the wall, and the right wing.

“’The Border Chronicle’ has also had a special emphasis on different groups offering alternatives such as Cafe Justo which is a people's coffee company, and humanitarian organizations like Humane Borders,” Miller said.

Todd Miller has been one of the leading U.S. writers on border issues for several decades. He has written four books and many articles on the subject and has traveled all over the world to investigate these issues. Among his singular contributions are his concept of the "border-industrial complex," by which he explains the tight interconnections of government, high-tech industries, and the military in enforcing border restrictions; and his analysis of the elasticity of borders, whereby border enforcement activities are carried out far beyond the nation's ostensible geographic boundaries.

A resident of Tucson, Miller has special expertise on issues affecting the U.S.-Mexican border. Along with Melissa del Bosque, who will be accompanying him for this presentation, he has recently created a Substack site called "The Border Chronicle," which brings together both his own ongoing work and that of other experts on border issues worldwide.
