In this three-part course, you'll learn how to build and maintain healthy soil, take a deep dive into soil ecology and stewardship, and increase your understanding of the relationships between human actions, soil health, farm/garden productivity, and plant and animal health.
Classes will be held on Sundays from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm with an hour after class for questions and connecting with peers.
Classes will be held at the Future Forge, 307 E College Ave, in Silver City.

April 2: Soil Health Principles and Practices - Fundamentals of soil and biochemistry and microbiology, plant physiology, fungi, and bacteria.
April 16: Deeper Dive into Soil Ecology and Stewardship - Hidden lives of bacteria, fungi, and micro- and macrofauna. We will connect the dots between human behavior and health, soil ecology, plant physiology, ecology, garden/farm productivity, and nutrient cycling.
April 30: Connecting Regenerative Practices to Soil Ecology - This class links the effects of modern regenerative land practices with their physical, chemical, and biological impacts on soil like in greater detail, providing us with more agency to live in healthy relation to our ecosystem.
Instructor Coakí (Wildcat) was born in the Oklahoma Seminole Nation and has a long history of organic gardening and farming. A student of soil microbiologist Dr. Elaine Ingham, he integrates Western schools of thought in biology, ecology, botany, and soil science with modern regenerative ecology practices and Indigenous land management wisdom. His knowledge incorporates the ancient form of milpa and the Brazilian traditions which gave birth to syntropic agriculture, bringing the collective picture into his eco-restoration work, including desert reforestation, regenerative horticulture, and food forestry. He lives near the Gila Wilderness Area in southern New Mexico, where he studies, teaches, and practices these modern and ancient technologies.
