Socorro County, NM -- On April 11, 2019, at about 1:58 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 25 near milepost 159, north of Socorro, NM.

The initial investigation indicated a 2014 Subaru, driven by Jerry R. Oldenettel (76) of Socorro, NM was traveling south on Interstate 25. The Subaru was attempting to pass a 5th wheel trailer and pick-up in the left lane. For reason still under investigation the Subaru struck the rear end of a 5th wheel travel trailer that was being pulled by the pick-up in the right lane of Interstate 25. The Subaru became stuck in the trailer and was dragged. Both vehicles eventually caught on fire. The driver of the Subaru, Oldenettel was transported to the Socorro General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by doctors. The driver towing the 5th wheel trailer was uninjured.

Alcohol was not a factor and seat belts were properly used. No additional information is available.
