ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that a Rio Arriba County jury convicted Laura Seeds of five counts of felony voter fraud Thursday in relation to her work on her husband Robert Seeds’ 2016 election campaign for an Española City Council seat. Seeds was found guilty of two counts of false statements, two counts of possessing absentee ballots, and one count of conspiracy to violate the Municipal Election Code.

“I am committed to protecting the integrity of our electoral processes and rooting out corruption throughout our state,” said Attorney General Balderas. “Laura Seeds violated the election laws that insure the integrity of the democratic process, and I am pleased that our office was able to achieve justice in this case.”

Jurors convicted Seeds of five fourth degree felonies, and she faces upwards of seven and a half years of incarceration at sentencing. After the verdicts, the Court announced that Seeds will remain on her current conditions of release until sentencing which is set for December 9th, 2019 at 1 p.m.  

The Office of the Attorney General is prosecuting an additional case involving allegations of committing intimidation in municipal election, coercion of voters, and disturbing polling place in municipal election against Seeds.

This case was investigated by special agents from the Office of the Attorney General and prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Peter Valencia and Caitlyn Dillon.
