Chaves County, NM - On February 20, 2020 at about 5:00 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash at the intersection of the Roswell Relief Route and west McGaffey Street, near Roswell, NM.

The initial investigation indicated a 2004 Ford Mustang, driven by David K. Thurman (56) of Roswell, NM was traveling eastbound on west McGaffey Street when he approached the intersection of the Roswell Relief Route. For unknown reasons the Mustang ran the stop sign and was struck by a 2015 Jeep that was traveling south on the Roswell Relief Route.  The driver of the Mustang, Thurman sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.  The driver of the Jeep, a 19-year-old female of Capitan, NM sustained injuries believed to be non-life threatening. She was treated on scene by emergency personnel. 

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have been not been used properly.  No other additional information available.
