(ALBUQUERQUE, NM) –PNM has been selected to receive a prestigious Technology Transfer Award from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) for achievements in collaborative research and development projects.
Maureen Gannon, on behalf of PNM, accepted a Technology Transfer Award for the company’s role in furthering research that integrates technical analyses of climate change-related science into company climate risk assessment, planning, greenhouse gas goal setting, and outreach.
The project provided a technical foundation which assisted PNM in understanding climate/2° scenarios and how our greenhouse reduction pathway aligns with various climate models that predict emission pathways that limit the warming of the earth’s temperature. The project provided an opportunity for PNM to become better informed and created a common language for discussions with many stakeholders, from investors to customers.
“PNM has set a goal for our energy resources to produce zero carbon emissions by 2040. While it is an aggressive goal, it is one that we embrace. This award affirms our leadership and commitment to stay on the leading edge of the clean energy transition and the efforts to combat climate change and that feels very good,” said Gannon.
PNM has a long history of funding EPRI research projects with a strong emphasis on operational performance and environmental excellence. PNM became involved in EPRI’s Understanding Climate Scenarios and Goal Setting Activities project to better understand our company’s carbon reduction pathway to 100% emissions-free by 2040 in the context of global climate goals that are focused on a 2° temperature constraint. In addition, PNM is receiving a growing number of requests from a diverse set of stakeholders to evaluate the risks posed by potential greenhouse gas emission targets and policies. Funding this project made sense to PNM to help develop a stronger understanding of global climate goals, the scenarios that strive to achieve those goals, and how our clean energy transition plan potentially align with these goals.
Gannon and PNM were recognized during EPRI Energy and Environment Winter Advisory Meeting on Tuesday, February 25, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Presented annually, EPRI’s Technology Transfer Awards recognize industry leaders and innovators who help companies transform research into results and solutions that can improve efficiency of power plants, harden transmission and distribution equipment, improve cybersecurity, and enhance end-use electrification, all for the benefit of utility customers.
