Tomorrow (3.27.2020), Aging and Long-Term Services Cabinet Secretary Katrina Hotrum-Lopez and her staff from the department will join with volunteers to prepare 4,000 food boxes. Each box will be delivered to a senior or disabled adult with two weeks’ worth of food inside. The state purchased the truck loads of food from Shamrock foods.

Future purchases and hubs are currently in the works. The Department plans to mobilize 43+ hubs across the state, each operated by staff and volunteers who can box and deliver food in their region.

More than 35,000 requests have come in from seniors and disabled adults across the state. The Department estimates there are approximately 104,000 seniors in New Mexico who live at or below the poverty level. Approximately 400 volunteers from all over the state have reached out to the ALTSD offering to help put together and deliver the boxes.
