Preference given to implementation of COVID-19 programs for the community’s senior population

(Albuquerque, N.M.) –  Today, the PNM Resources Foundation announced it will be offering $200,000 in grant money for nonprofits with programs working to increase community safety. Funding will range from $10,000 to $50,000 for each nonprofit recipient, with preference given to organizations that implemented COVID-19 programs for the community’s most at-risk senior population. Nonprofits have until Thursday, April 2, to apply.

“Community safety is about feeling safe, whether at home, work, or in the community,” said Laurie Roach, PNM Resources Foundation director. “With COVID-19 affecting everyone’s lives right now, the PNM Resources Foundation is proud to double the amount of nonprofit support to nonprofits for community safety grants from $100,000 to $200,000 because that’s what this Foundation does – we help our nonprofit community, especially in times of crisis.”

Safety is a top priority for PNM Resources. The company’s commitment to moving the state forward is more than providing electricity, it also believes investing time and money in the state’s communities helps New Mexico’s future shine brighter. Supporting nonprofits brings hope, opportunity, and unity.

The community safety grant is for nonprofits to cover program and operational costs and to continue delivering much needed services that keep our community safe both now and in the future.

Community safety is a building block for a healthy community. It focuses on achieving a positive state of well-being among people within social and physical environments. Not only is it about reducing and preventing crime, but it is also about building strong, cohesive, vibrant, participatory communities. Community safety has an impact on the way people feel and interact in their community, which is especially felt right now with COVID-19 and the significant financial hardships nonprofits are facing while still trying to serve the community.

The PNM Resources Foundation and Corporate Giving together have awarded more than $20 million in the past 6 years to nonprofit organizations. Since 1983, the PNM Resources Foundation has helped improve the quality of life in New Mexico by supporting nonprofit organizations. The PNM Resources Foundation is a separate, nonprofit, tax exempt corporation governed by a board of trustees comprised of PNM Resources employees. No customer funds are part of the PNM Resources Foundation endowment. Eligible nonprofits must hold a 501(c)3 status from the IRS and be within the areas that PNM and Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) serves.
