Torrance County Commission Appoints New County Manager

ESTANCIA, NM – Torrance County Commission is pleased to announce Janice Y. Barela as the new County Manager. On September 23, 2020 the Torrance County Commissioners voted to approve the contract for Barela with a unanimous vote. 

Barela has worked for Torrance County for almost 12 years. With her knowledge, experience and work ethic we are confident in her ability to succeed, reported the commissioners. “I’ve watched Mrs. Barela as Deputy Manager and Interim Manager, I’m impressed and I’m excited for her to be working with the County,” Ryan Schwebach, Commission Chair, said. “I think you’re a great addition to the team, I’m excited for where Torrance County is headed and the leadership we have. Welcome aboard, good luck and I wish you the best,” Kevin McCall, Commissioner, said. Barela said she is eager and willing to serve all of Torrance County and its Constituents. 

Barela has been a resident of Torrance County for over 35 years, during which time she has given back to her community in many ways such as taking the RESPECT Program into the schools and founding the non-profit, Quality Generational Investments, Inc.
